Nell Carter, the 4-foot-11 star who reached stardom belting out Fats Waller tunes in the 1978 Broadway blockbuster Ain't Misbehavin' and was a superstar television comedienne in the sitcom "Gimme A Break," has died. She was 54.
The singer/actress collapsed in her Beverly Hills home and was found by Joshua, 13, one of her adopted sons (Daniel is 12), according to her publicist.
The cause of death was not established at JET press time although Carter suffered from weight problems, diabetes and in the early `90s had an aneurysm.
