NEW ORLEANS -- The West Nile virus epidemic was a jolt that should motivate Colorado and other states to rebuild mosquito-control programs before a possibly more deadly germ arrives, a Fort Collins expert said Monday.
``West Nile is pretty tame compared to some of the others that could come in, and we need to be doing more now,'' said Duane Gubler, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention laboratory in Fort Collins.
``Do we wait for the next one, or do we use West Nile as a wake-up call?'' Gubler asked at the fourth National Conference on West Nile Virus in the United States.
