Skaneateles Central School District became the first school district in seven years to receive the Governor's Award of Excellence, the state announced Tuesday.
"We were ecstatic, to say the least," said Superintendent Walter Sullivan. "This recognition is the biggest honor a school district could receive."
No school district in this area has ever won the award, which is the highest award for leadership and management excellence presented in the state.
