Australian media group Rural Press has recorded a rise in interim net profit despite the effects of the drought. Net profit for the first half of 2002-03 came in at $A35.2m, up from $A28.5 in the previous corresponding period. The company said that advertising sales had declined as the drought hit rural businesses, but circulation had increased as drought-affected readers sought information.
