Engelhard says it has formed an alliance with Nippon Sheet Glass (Osaka) to develop and market special-effect pearlescent and iridescent pigments for makers of coatings, cosmetics, plastics, and inks. The companies say they are developing new titanium and iron oxide coating technologies on a borosilicate substrate "that will enable a range of striking appearance characteristics not seen before in consumer products." Nippon Sheet Glass is an expert in borosilicate chemistry.
The first new products to be produced under the alliance will be a line of cosmetic. effect pigments to be marketed by Engelhard as Reflecks Dimensions, says Christine Gehres, v.p./marketing, ...
