Feb. 16--War is good for the economy.
That incendiary idea surfaces sometimes in casual conversation or in anti-war rhetoric, along with the notion that the motivation for a possible U.S. attack on Iraq is economic.
And the experts are virtually unanimous: The charge is true.
About World War II, that is. But when it comes to other wars, the truth is uneven. Whether a war helps or hurts, rejuvenates or razes the economy depends largely on what shape the economy is in, the cost of the war, how the money is spent and how long the war goes on.
