Digital cameras: quality up, prices down. (Photography).

NEW YORK -- Digital cameras have moved solidly into the mainstream. According to the Consumer Electronics Association, about 25% of households already have one.

Household penetration will only increase as the devices continue to come down in price while becoming easier to use and producing better pictures.

Most digital cameras being sold today offer resolutions of 2 to 4 megapixels and sell for between $200 and $400. Less expensive cameras offering lower resolution are also available, including some models at the very low end that can produce images for web pages or E-mail but are not suited for making high-quality prints.
