Membership dues accounted for 42 percent of an organization's overall revenue in 2002, according to an ASAE Industry Research study that examined more than 500 U.S. associations. Surprisingly, not too much has changed from six years ago when membership dues represented 43 percent of an association's overall revenue.
Organizational size plays a role in whether associations rely on membership dues for their main source of revenue. In 2002, associations with smaller revenue sizes depended more on membership dues revenue compared to their counterparts with larger revenues.
