Feb. 19--AUSTIN, Texas--Rio Grande Valley lawmakers have been told that state funding for indigent health care will be axed, resulting in the loss of $4 million for Cameron and Hidalgo counties.
The Valley legislative delegation was warned late Tuesday that the Texas Department of Health would not be including the $7.2 million County Indigent Health Care Program in its budget for 2004-05.
Instead, help for the poorest members of the community will be included as part of a $17 million "exceptional item" request the state agency plans to make to the ...
