Hannah Grindrod thoughtfully questions whether Harry Potter stories are the "best choice for children," despite recent Vatican approval.
Harry Potter stories are not lessons for kids about the difference between good and evil or other moral tenets. These books are a treat, not a treatment. Harry Potter volumes are the first kids' books in decades that are enticing young readers to rush bookshop doors to buy them. They do not need to be assigned reading, and will be diminished if reduced to a new homework set.
