Feb. 23--MarcoLiMandri remembers a time 20 years ago, when the bail-bond business in San Diego was a kinder, gentler enterprise. The owner of A to Z Bail Bonds said he would even give lost customers directions to a competitor's office.

"It was the way we used to do business," LiMandri said. "But it's not like that anymore. I've had customers sitting in my office when people working for other bail agencies would try to lure them out and up the street. It's cutthroat now."
