Dolores Turchi, author of a number of books about legends and popular traditions in Sardinia, including Leggende e racconti populari della Sardegna (1984) and Maschere, miti efeste della Sardegna (1990; Italica [Summer 1992]), takes a second look in her latest book at some of those same myths and legends and finds unmistakable traces of shamanism. What have been always been considered tales of superstition, magic and myth, Turchi suggests be reconsidered as relics of an Asian cult.
In her informative introduction Turchi acknowledges that the word "shaman" has never been used in regard to customs on the island of Sardinia, ...
