Pasminco's Hobart Smelter is one of the lowest-cost zinc production facilities in the world. In the period from the late 1990s to 2002, production capacity has improved to 260,000 tonnes per annum. Unit operating costs have been reduced by around $A100 per tonne, to $A550 per tonne in fiscal 2003, over the past two financial years.
