I eagerly read last Sunday's article on the Atkins diet to see what new research is available. Unfortunately, the article (Page A17) presented no new research and simply repeated findings, and two major errors, that have appeared in the press before.
One error was the claim that the Atkins diet reduces cholesterol better than high-carbohydrate/low-fat dieting. This refers to a study that compared the Atkins diet to the ``step one'' diet that was once used by the American Heart Association. The ``step one'' slightly decreased fat intake, literally as a first step in improving diet.
The AHA abandoned this diet in 2000, before the study was performed. The ...
