2003 MAR 1 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Smoking or having a high body mass index (BMI) may predispose women to more severe or frequent hot flashes, according to a new study.
A cross-sectional study of Baltimore-area women, ages 40-60 years, found that compared with never-smokers, current smokers had an increased risk for both moderate to severe hot flashes and for daily hot flashes. The greater the amount smoked, the greater the risk for hot flashes. However, former smokers were not significantly more likely than women who never smoked to report any hot flashes.
