Feb. 26--FORESTHILL, Calif.--The U.S. Forest Service has largely affirmed a decision to log part of Tahoe National Forest scorched in the Star fire of 2001.
Responding to appeals filed by environmental groups, Deputy Regional Forester Bernie Weingardt ruled logging and restoration activities can proceed on 5,500 acres near French Meadows Reservoir.
The only exception is Duncan Canyon, a roadless area prized by environmentalists. Weingardt reversed a Tahoe forest decision to log about 2,000 acres of the canyon, citing inadequate ...
