A judge found a man innocent Tuesday of reckless homicide in a hit-and-run crash in Downers Grove that killed a promising college student.

But Corey Schmidt still faces up to 14 years in prison after being convicted of leaving the scene of the fatal accident. The 25- year-old Woodridge man will be sentenced April 18.

"It's not perfect, but we're definitely happy," said Lorraine Wesolowski, whose 18-year-old daughter, Candace, was killed. "We've waited a long time for this. It's been very painful."
