Tidewater Auto Auction will move onto 100 acres of Currituck farmland near Moyock with plans to construct a 45,000-square-foot building and bring up to 300 jobs, which would make it the largest private employer in the county.
Every Wednesday, Tidewater's sales at a site in Chesapeake attract about 600 dealers from several Eastern states who bid for up to 2,000 cars and trucks.
The new location, said Dean Vassar, general manager, will move even more vehicles.
``We'll have 10 lanes with 10 auctioneers selling 10 different cars every 30 seconds,'' he said.
