Feb. 28--Though it has its detractors, Grand Forks Mayor Mike Brown's proposal to increase the sales tax and cut property taxes has met mostly mild to positive responses.
Some City Council members had feared that shifting a part of the tax burden from city residents to shoppers from the region's towns and farms would not go over very well.
At the same time, city officials anxiously pointed out the mayor wasn't raising the city sales tax just to spend more on a proposed indoor water park at the Alerus Center.
