WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The disarray in the World Trade Organization agricultural negotiations and the ongoing conflict with Europe on genetically modified (GM) food could cost the WTO support from key agricultural members of Congress, House Ways & Means Committee chairman Bill Thomas (R., Cal.) warned last week.

Thomas made his remarks in a keynote speech to the American Enterprise Institute, a Washington, D.C., think tank. It's time for Europe "to wake up and make some changes," his spokeswoman recounted from his strongly worded message. "The U.S. complies with its WTO obligations -- and expects Europe to do the same."
