Article: West Virginia Higher Education Bill Won't Close Any State Colleges.

Mar. 4--No state colleges would close, although all would be expected to streamline their operations and reduce costs, under the higher education reform bill advanced by the Senate Education Committee Monday evening.

Developed from weeks of negotiations among the House and Senate education chairmen and state college presidents, the draft Monday is less draconian than the original House bill (HB2224). That proposal would have closed two colleges by 2007 and saved at least $20 million a year.
