When film studios tout the digital cinema release of a movie, we're only talking about 140 theaters worldwide. Granted the industry is only three years old, but optimistic projections to expand the worldwide base to 1,000 digital cinemas or more by the end of 2002 were not realized. While everyone loves the digital cinema concept of seeing a pristine "print" the first time, every time, the sticking point remains money. Cinema operators won't start buying the expensive equipment until prices come down, and prices won't come down until they buy.
