Early in September of last year while on an exploration visit to the Meikle mine, we saw an interesting pyrite specimen. Actually, it wasn't in the mine but was setting on the desk of a mine electrician in the Meikle administration building. We inquired where in the mine it had come from and were told "in the Griffin area," an area that covers a lot of ground.
The Meikle geology staff helped us pin down the exact level and stope where the piece originated. The next morning, off we headed without high expectations other than to have a source of massive pyrite. We reached the target stope late in the morning and quickly found the locality, a fairly wide ...
