* Your recent editorial on Illinois Gov. George Ryan's decision to commute the sentences of those on death row was correct in calling his action justice (NCR, Jan. 24). As the pope has pointed out, our tradition calls us to respect all life "from conception to natural death." In reading the following week's issue, I was again angered by the appointment of Gov. Frank Keating as chairman of the bishops' National Review Board. The board should be made up of lay Catholics with strong ethics.
