There is a gap between supply and demand for pharmacists. According to the Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia's executive director, Yvonne Allinson, the shortage is nearing "crisis point". Allinson has recognised that the New South Wales (NSW) public sector has large salary gaps - something the big pharmaceutical sector takes advantage of by recruiting pharmacists with very attractive remuneration packages. The Pharmacy Guild of Australia recently commissioned a report which found that Australia faces a shortage of 3,000 pharmacists between 2003 and 2011. The Health and Research Employees ...
