What's nine minutes when you're 90 years old anyway?

To Encino resident Ernie Van Leeuwen, the oldest man in Sunday's Los Angeles Marathon, that was the margin that separated him from a new age-group world record when he crossed the finish line to cheers from family, friends and strangers.

In his eighth L.A. Marathon, Van Leeuwen finished in 6 hours, 54 minutes, 36 seconds, 9:05 off the world record in the 90-and-over age group set by Fauja Singh in last April's London Marathon. Van Leeuwen also was a little less than six minutes shy of the American record.
