KEMPSVILLE - The African nation of Mali may be one of the world's poorest nations, but Indian Lakes third-graders know it has a rich history.
Home of the legendary city of Timbuktu, Mali will be included on the students' upcoming Standards of Learning exams. And a new outreach program developed by the Contemporary Art Center of Virginia, teachers said, will reinforce what the students have studied about the country.
The Parks Avenue art center offers 10 hands-on programs combining visual arts with social studies, science, language arts and math.
