THERE are several types of hysterectomy but all involve the removal of the uterus.
It's a huge step for any woman to take, so the decision to have a hysterectomy should never be made lightly.
Current thinking would reserve it as treatment for a life-threatening or severely incapacitating disease.
For instance, the possibility of ovarian cancer occurring later is often given as the reason for a total hysterectomy.
