CERNOBBIO, Italy -- While the Italian textile industry faces a tough year, Italian shirt fabric manufacturers are celebrating record profits in '02.
"Everyone is complaining that in the textile business things are tough, but shirting seems to being doing fine," said Sambuy Aimone, commercial director for S.I.C. Tess Srl.
Silvio Albini, chief executive of Cotonificio Albini SpA, said the company experienced a 9 percent increase in sales and credited much of that to innovative Italian design. "At this moment the market is looking for creativity, design and technology in fabric. We Italians give the best we can, and the market appreciates it," he said.
