BERNARDSVILLE, N.J.-Services were held here Feb. 26 for Sal Giordano Sr., who probably did more than anyone to make the room air conditioner a popular product. He died Feb. 22 at age 92.
Giordano had been chairman emeritus of Fedders Corp., which he converted from metalworking and heat-transfer products into the nation's leading room-air maker.
A Brooklyn, N.Y., native and son of immigrants, he quit school at 17 to be a factory floor boy at Frank J. Quigan Inc., which made handbags and purse frames. In seven years, he was acting chief executive officer.
A 1945 acquisition added Fedders, and he moved quickly to design and market room air ...
