Mar. 6--AUSTIN, Texas-- Legislators would face new restrictions on their business activities under an ethics bill filed Wednesday.
The bill by Rep. Steven Wolens, chairman of the House Select Ethics Committee, addresses longstanding concerns about conflicts of interest, particularly involving lawmakers who are lawyers.
House Bill 1606 would ban legislators from representing persons for pay before state agencies and political subdivisions. Lawmakers have represented nursing home owners, charter schools and dietary supplement manufacturers before regulatory agencies.
