Mar. 7--GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.--An act of Congress and an executive order from Gov. Bill Owens will join forces with bugs, goats, chain saws, bulldozers, chemicals and prison gangs in waging what is expected to be a long war on the West's most noxious weed.
Owens has issued an order directing the Department of Natural Resources to coordinate efforts to rid Colorado of the non-native tamarisk plant within a decade. Rep. Scott McInnis, R-Colo., is asking Congress for $1 million to fund long-range eradication research, and Sen. Pete Domenici, R-N.M., plans to reintroduce a bill this ...
