Ignatius Donnelly - lawyer, politician, newspaper publisher, author and all-around Minnesota character - was born Nov. 3, 1831.
He arrived in the Minnesota Territory in 1857 and built a home in what is now Nininger Township in Dakota County.
He would serve as the state's second lieutenant governor, under Alexander Ramsey, as well as serving in the state Senate and in Congress.
A Democrat-turned-progressive-Republican, he became a father of the Populist and third party movements. He ran as vice president for the People's Party in the elections of 1900, a year that saw several parties fielding ...
