Mar. 7--The Orlando Sentinel has won three prizes in the 69th annual National Headliner Awards, including the top investigative award for a series reported jointly with The Sun of Baltimore.
Willoughby Mariano of the Sentinel and Walter F. Roche Jr. of The Sun won first place in investigative reporting for "Indentured in America," a three-day series that showed how thousands of Pacific Islanders were being lured to America by unscrupulous businessmen engaging in a modern-day form of slavery.
