The news about Dante moved through our neighborhood faster than Lance Armstrong on a downhill slope.
Dante was going through a change of life, a complete makeover. Like the good-looking 40-year-old who undergoes a face lift, we didn't know whether to celebrate or commiserate.
The neighboring kids were the first to respond. They hurried to Dante's house to see the outcome for themselves. Sure enough, he had shed the old look. There in a corner of his one-room habitat was Dante, a fuzzy old tarantula with a much more youthful appearance.
I was 47 when Dante shed his skin and I didn't even know that a tarantula went ...
