Mar. 9--SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas--As tens of thousands of bikini-clad coeds descend on South Padre Island this month, Rio Grande Valley cash registers hope to be ringing with another type of booty.
With at least 100,000 college students expected to make their way to the area's beaches, millions of dollars are spent and thousands of jobs are created locally. At the same time, major multinational corporations spend major money trying to woo young impressionables into brand loyalty that they hope will last a lifetime.
