It's a classic scenario: the artist who falls in love with his model. No less common in 2003, I'm sure, than it was in 1672, when this tale is set. But here the story has a twist to it.
The woman in question is no professional model, but a rather grand lady, the richest in Sutton Coldfield, in fact, and way above the sculptor in social standing and ready money.
There's another twist as well, an even more unexpected one. The bust so lovingly being carved is for a grave.
