Thomas C. Young, a retired Navy aviator and captain for American Airlines, died Jan. 21 of a heart attack while on business in London. He was 53.
Capt. Young was born in Chicago. He received a bachelor's degree in business administration from Pfeiffer University in Misenheimer, N.C., in 1971.
He entered Navy flight training upon graduation. After flight training, he was assigned duties in the S-2 Tracker and S-3 Viking, where he flew from the decks of the USS Saratoga and USS John F. Kennedy. He continued to serve in the Naval Reserve, becoming a squadron commanding officer.
