Mar. 10--BERTHOUD PASS, Colo.--The lifts will soon be coming out at the state's second-oldest ski area, but the owner of Berthoud Pass ski area is working to make sure the area's future shines on.
The old joke is that Berthoud Pass ski area sees more skiers when it's closed than when it's open.
That's certainly true this season. Even though the lifts are not turning, hundreds of powder-hunting skiers hike up the area's ridges every week, taking advantage of the Sno-Cat-carved pathways for quick ascensions and floating descents.
