Mar. 10--As more Hoosier students sign up for government-subsidized school lunches, a federal plan to tighten eligibility requirements is raising concerns that some needy children won't get fed.
In the past decade, the number of Indiana students approved for free school lunches has risen from about 22.2 percent to nearly 25 percent -- more than 250,000 students this year, according to the Indiana Department of Education.
Nationwide, participation in the government-subsidized portion of the $6.8 billion National School Lunch Program also is up. During the ...
