Sexual and reproductive rights are human rights too. By neglecting reproductive rights, many countries are denying women their human rights.
Karen Newman, Senior Human Rights Co-ordinator of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) reiterated this at the House of Commons in London during the UK celebration of Human Rights Day on 10 December 2002.
In a speech entitled "Health and Human Rights: The Role of International Organizations," Newman estimates some 600,000 women die yearly of pregnancy-related causes.
