THE VILLA
CAN THERE be a more delightful feeling than finally arriving at your rented villa after a sun-baked, five-hour drive through France?
It was mid-afternoon as we turned down the farm track and first saw the terracotta roof tiles of the low, rambling farmhouse.
Thick-walled and cool in the shade of old pine and oak forests, it had a sunny lawn where sprinklers turned lazily and children in swimming trunks danced through the spray as their parents sunbathed by the pool.
