The exciting young Russian conductor Tugan Sokhievconducts his first performances in Birmingham this week with Welsh National Opera since taking up his role as music director of the prestigious company in January.
But Midland audiences have already had the chance to savour his undoubted talents as an orchestral conductor, in concerts with the Philharmonia in Worcester Cathedral during last summer's Three Choirs' Festival, and with the CBSO last autumn. Both proved tremendous musical experience.
