2003 MAR 17 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- An Indian plan to build the largest manmade water network in the world is ill-conceived and could spark a water war with its neighbors, say opponents of the scheme.
Proponents are seeking funding for the multi-billion dollar project from the World Bank, according to a report in New Scientist (www.newscientist.com).
In December 2002, Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee announced he was making water a top priority. By linking India's largest rivers in a countrywide grid he aims to get water from the north to the states of the south and east that were hit by severe droughts in 2002.
