Mar. 13--AUSTIN, Texas--The University of Texas at Arlington would end its 38-year membership in the University of Texas System and become an independent entity under legislation filed Wednesday by an Arlington lawmaker.
State Rep. Toby Goodman, R-Arlington, said he and several other Tarrant-area lawmakers are dissatisfied with the UT System's plan to promote the University of Texas at Dallas to "flagship" status, which they say would siphon money and prestige from the 108-year-old Arlington campus.
