GIVEN his near-obsessive attention to detail, it was something of a coup to reveal to Arsene Wenger that the goalkeeper who has been his first choice for the last seven years is about to reach a remarkable milestone in his career.
There was a look of genuine surprise on the Arsenal manager's face when he discovered that, at Ewood Park tomorrow, David Seaman will be playing his 1,000th first-team game.
"Oh yes, really?" said a quizzical Wenger.
"One thousand is a number that hits you. The last time I heard that number with regard to football is when Pele scored 1,000 goals."
