CORVALLIS - Luke Martindale didn't figure to be playing the point in Siuslaw's opening-round game at the Class 3A boys basketball state tournament at Gill Coliseum.
But when sophomore Ben Voogd fouled out with 1:50 left in the game Tuesday and the Vikings leading 42-35, the 6-foot Martindale more than accepted the challenge of bringing the ball up the court and running the offense.
He also handled the pressure of making his foul shots by hitting all six of his attempts - including a pair with just over a minute left after Newport had closed to within two points - to lead the Vikings to a 51-45 victory ...
