There's a new cheese in town! Long popular in France, fromage blanc is now available in Eugene.
It's a fresh cheese akin to cottage cheese but with an ultrafine curd. Used for desserts and entrees, fromage blanc is being made by a new cheese company in Albany as well as artisan creameries in Northern California.
Oregon Gourmet Cheese Co., of Albany is a venture by Connie Collins, an American cinematographer-director turned cheese maker, and her husband, Australian film director George Miller (`The Man from Snowy River," "The Neverending Story II," "Andre," "Zeus and Roxanne').
