Q: How can I get rid of horsetail in my yard? I keep pulling and pulling, but these weeds keep coming back. I do not want to use chemical herbicides.

MB: Never pull horsetails! The pulling action just stimulates their root system and they come galloping back every time. Instead, you will need to cut each stem at ground level. In a few weeks new shoots will sprout and you must cut them off at ground level and repeat the process again. One summer I placed a pair of scissors in a plastic bag next to the horsetail invasion in my garden so I would remember to cut them to the ground each time they ...
