You may never use it in your car to find the nearest gas station. But a navigation technology advanced by Locus Inc. in Fitchburg could well provide long-range second tier support that would make travel safer in planes, trains and automobiles.

Locus and its President G. Linn Roth have emerged as a force to continue the Loran C -- Long Range Navigation -- system developed some 60 years ago to provide radio navigation service for U.S. coastal waters.
